Low-threshold clubs are transforming into safe spaces.

Safe Space

A Safe Space is, above all, a safe environment where you are respected, accepted, and not judged.

But Safe Space is most of all created by people and their stories. It’s a place where children and young people can come at set times, spend time with their peers, and engage in activities they enjoy. They can find support in staff members with whom they can share both their joys and their worries.

Safe Spaces are places where children and adolescents can find a sense of safety and trusted relationships—with both staff and peers. They can talk about whatever is on their mind, or simply just be.

These spaces are supported by professionals who understand the complex world today’s generation is growing up in. They offer not only emotional support, but also opportunities to make new friends and to explore and build healthy relationships—with others and with themselves.

Who comes to us

Children and young people between the ages of 9 and 26 who live in Prague 9, 14, 20 and Prague 21.

Mission statement - why are we here?

The Safe Space Bus and Reset programs work with children and adolescents aged 9 to 26 who spend time in various neighborhoods of Prague, particularly in Prague 9 and surrounding areas, as well as Prague 14, 20, and 21. We offer support primarily in navigating the challenges of adolescence, but also in other areas of life and in coping with difficult life situations.

We strive to help young people become aware of the consequences of their behavior, take responsibility for their actions, and learn how to draw on available resources—both their own and those within their natural support networks—to improve their quality of life.

We achieve these goals through preventive work, by creating safe environments for spending free time, and by strengthening skills and competencies that reduce the risk of harmful or risky behavior.

Who we meet in the field

Within our Prague offices, we also work in the field. Our staff monitor the sites and reach out to the target group to offer support and help with client issues in their natural environment. We work with communities and clients to improve the community and environment in which children and young people spend their time.

We also provide an outreach form of our service in primary schools in the localities in which we operate, in collaboration with the schools’ educational counsellors.

We provide information to those we meet in the field to reduce their risky behaviour. We give them advice and hand out small prevention materials and information leaflets.
